Thank You – to all who work with us in our family of schools

15th July 2019

As we come to the end of a really busy and very successful year, I would like to thank you all for your amazing support this year – whether you are one of our hardworking and delightful students, one of our supportive and committed parents, one of our dedicated and creative staff members, one of our encouraging and helpful trustees and governors, or if you have worked with us in any other way – thank you for having been part of our journey this year!

The highlights have been so many, the successes so great, that we can’t review them all here; you will hopefully already have heard about the official opening of SGS Berkeley Green by HRH Princess Anne, the fabulous and inspirational visits by some of our Forest students to Oxford University, or the ‘Into The Woods’ outdoor learning at SGS Pegasus.

Maybe your personal highlight of the year was the Bloodhound Land Speed Record team’s unique partnership with SGS at our Berkeley Green site, or the exceptional care for students shown by TFHS being certified as a Stonewall Champion School? Or perhaps it was the Capoeira martial art/dance programme that has helped SGS Pegasus students learn in a hands-on way about the slave trade?

Behind these glamorous highlights lies the day to day value of what we do – it’s less photogenic perhaps, but it’s what we’re here for.

The daily partnership between staff and students as we all try to gain more knowledge and sharpen our skills, become more confident and be better friends is how we judge our success.

These are really challenging times for education, and the financial, social and political difficulties facing schools are widely publicized and show no signs of receding. But we aim in our schools, staff and students alike, to become more employable and more informed citizens every day, to be better friends, better qualified and more successful people, and will continue to strive for that when we return after the summer.

On that note, there’s an exciting new chapter for the Trust in September as new Heads take up posts in all three schools to help us move to the next level in our drive to be the best for all our communities. They introduce themselves on the following pages and you will, of course, hear much more from them in September.

In the meantime, please enjoy the summer and enjoy a well-deserved break with your families.

With best wishes,
Stephen Miles, Deputy CEO, SGS Academy Trust.
