Student Life
Life at a University Technical College is very similar to school in many ways in terms of the general curriculum taught by qualified and experienced teachers, but it is also excitingly different to school in that it has much more in common with the workplace and a professional employment setting.
We operate a slightly longer day, and teaching and learning are conducted in a high quality environment that really helps you to progress into the world of work, or into higher education, for degree level study when you leave the UTC.
Students will spend part of their time learning about the specialisms of Engineering, Manufacturing, Cyber Security and Digital Technologies, through skills workshops, lectures from employers, visits to employers, immersion in industry placements (work experience), or projects set by employers. Time will be spent learning and experiencing work within these two priority sectors for the area. Students wear business dress instead of school uniforms, attend project meetings and have significant interaction with employers.
What our students think
As well as our academic and vocational programmes, the students will experience and benefit from an extensive programme of sports, citizenship, and employability skills, and will work closely with SGS College’s Bristol Academy of Sport who were judged Outstanding for their Sports provision in their recent OfSTED inspection.

That Added Extra
Due to SGS Berkeley Green UTC’s focused curriculum on Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing, Cyber Security and Digital Technologies, high levels of investment have been made in specialist equipment to support these curriculum areas that will deliver the skills that employers are desperate to fill.
Our extensive investment includes equipment more often found in an employer’s premises than in schools, and more than a million pounds worth of specialist equipment will be available for students when they join the UTC.
