English as an Additional Language
English as an Additional Language (EAL) at Forest High
At Forest High, we take great pride in being a multilingual, multicultural school. Our diverse student body includes 40 students from a wide variety of countries, speaking an impressive range of languages, such as Romanian, Tagalog, Ukrainian, Malayalam, Polish, Kurdish, Arabic, Serbian, and Thai. This rich cultural diversity is a cornerstone of our school community, and we strive to create an inclusive environment where every student feels valued and supported.
As an inclusive school, we are committed to ensuring that all students, regardless of their language background, have access to the full range of lessons and activities offered by our curriculum. Our dedicated staff receive ongoing training to effectively support the learning needs of multilingual students, helping them to succeed and fully participate in all areas of their education. The school EAL Co-ordinator is Mrs Willis. As the Head of Department for Languages, she has expertise in students’ language acquisition and application. For students who require additional support with their English language learning, we provide tailored interventions to ensure they are able to develop their language skills and thrive academically. These interventions are designed to help students build confidence in using English both in and outside the classroom.
We also celebrate and recognise the different cultural events that enrich our school year. Our annual EAL Tea Party provides a wonderful opportunity for students and their families to come together, share experiences, and connect with staff. This event is just one example of how we embrace our diverse community and celebrate the unique cultural backgrounds of our students.
At SGS Forest High, every child matters. We are incredibly proud to have our multilingual students and their families as an integral part of our school community, and we remain committed to supporting their learning journey and cultural development.
