Full Time Equivalent Salary: £38,529.00

Term Time Only Contracts will occur a salary adjustment if the start date is after 1st September

SGS Academy Trust is a Multi Academy Trust, which was formed in response to the equest of the Regional Schools Commissioner, Sir David Carter in November 2014.

South Gloucestershire and Stroud College sponsor the Trust, and their size and range of expertise forms the basis of the support for schools within the Trust.

There are three schools within the Trust:

Forest High School is situated in Cinderford, Forest of Dean.  Forest High School has engaged with some of the best learning providers in the county to establish a rich, extensive curriculum and to support classroom teaching,   The School is small, intimate and student focused.

SGS Pegasus School opened in September 2017 providing a genuinely innovative school for children and young people with autism.  It is located in Patchway, South Gloucestershire. The School provides a personalised, multi-disciplinary and evidence-based approach to support young people to learn and thrive

SGS Berkeley Green UTC opened in September 2017.  As the first University Technical College (UTC) in Gloucestershire, Berkeley Green aspires to combine outstanding academic and technical education.

SGS Academy Trust have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Manager

Main Purpose of the role

  • As Finance Manager to all schools within the SGS Academy Trust, to support and provide financial information to school Headteachers, as well as other budget holders and administrators, working with them proactively to help improve financial performance and control and meet the requirements of the Trust and ESFA.
  • Prepare the monthly management accounts and in-year forecasts, liaising closely with the Director of Finance, the Assistant Accountant and Headteachers. Maintenance and management of the overall accounting structure.
  • To provide the Director of Finance with the financial information that will enable Headteachers to understand performance in their activities in the Trust and thereby improve financial effectiveness.
  • To provide reliable and timely information, advice and guidance to Trustees, staff and third parties on matters relating to SGS Academy Trust finance.
  • Prepare the year end statutory reports and accounts for the Trust and liaise with external auditors to ensure compliance and adoption of best practice.
  • Line management and support of the Assistant Accountant.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the preparation of the Trusts’ monthly management accounts pack, indicators and other information, working closely with the College Finance team as needed, to ensure that information is provided to the Director of Finance within the agreed timescales.
  • To assist in the continuing development of monthly management information.
  • To prepare the cyclical in-year forecasts in accordance with the required timescales.
  • To produce monthly financial information reports, indicators and information that assist in achieving and exceeding agreed financial targets.
  • To produce KPl’s in the management accounts pack to enable Headteachers to understand and improve the contribution.
  • To assist and support the Headteachers in the continuing development of budgeting systems within the Trust and to ensure that Headteachers are supplied with timely information to enable them to control their budgets.
  • To provide all such assistance as may be required by the external auditors in the audit of the statutory accounts.
  • To liaise, where necessary, with the internal auditors in the performance of their duties.
  • To ensure that financial returns, grant claims, statistical and other returns as required by funding or other statutory bodies are completed accurately and returned within the required timescales.
  • Line manage the SGS Academy Trust Assistant Accountant.
  • Collaborate with, provide advise and assist other Trust managers or SLT members generally in the performance of their duties, in relation to finance operational matters, regulations, protocols, processes etc.
  • To complete other ad hoc tasks as may reasonably be included within the role.
